• How do we make our handcrafted lye?

We create our lye using traditional, sustainable methods. For potassium hydroxide (KOH), we extract potassium from banana peels and hardwood ash. The ash is boiled in water, filtered, and mixed with slaked lime to create a natural lye solution to make our liquid soap. For sodium hydroxide (NaOH), we use washing soda mixed with slaked lime to produce a high-quality lye that’s perfect for our hard soaps.

  • What is lye, and why is it used in soap making?

Lye is an alkaline substance, also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH) for hard soap or potassium hydroxide (KOH) for liquid soap. It reacts with oils or fats in a process called saponification, creating soap. Without lye, soap cannot be made—it’s a crucial ingredient that transforms natural oils into the cleansing bars and liquids we use every day.

  • Why is handcrafted lye better than commercial lye?

Our handcrafted lye is made using natural, sustainable processes, avoiding synthetic chemicals often used in commercial production. It’s part of our commitment to creating eco-friendly soaps with as little environmental impact as possible.

  • How does our lye-making process make our soap unique?

By crafting our own lye, we can ensure every step of our soap-making process is natural and sustainable. This dedication to tradition and quality sets our products apart, making them truly one of a kind.

  • Is handcrafted lye environmentally friendly?

Yes! Our lye is made using natural materials like hardwood ash and banana peels, which are often considered waste. This process not only reduces waste but also eliminates the need for synthetic chemicals, making it a more sustainable choice.
